Oven Productions cooking up Annual Variety Show

by M.F. Castle

The temperature is close to zero, the highways are icy, and it's time for the 7th annual Oven Productions Variety Show. So brush the snow out of your eyes and get ready for fun.

This year's extravaganza will be held at the old Temple on the Heights, now called the Civic, at 3130 Mayfield Road, former site of such successes as the Dinner Party, the Women's Growth Coop Halloween Party and the L.I.G.H.T. New Year's Eve Party.

Saturday, February 20th is the day, 8 p.m. is the time, and $7 is the ticket price for this women-only event (under 12 and over 60, $2) with ticket outlets at Coventry Books, Six Steps Down, L.I.G.H.T., the Akron Food Coop, the Tenth Muse in Kent, and the Inkwell Press in Youngstown.

Did we say tickets were $7? Yes, we did. But that $7 covers the standard two hours of Inspired Insanity, but a party afterward. In the same hall. Think of it. No transferring your car from one side street parking space to another side

street parking space. No oneand-a-half block trek through two-foot snowdrifts before you can party. One large, covenient parking lot and you're set for the evening.

As for the evening itself-well, if you're one of the ones who's never missed a Variety Show, you know what to expect. And if you've never been to a Variety Show-how can we tell you what to expect?

Whichever you are, if you're feeling nostalgic for Michigan, if you remember fondly those long hours of hard work at the Dinner Party, then don't miss us. There'll also be fun for those who love daytime TV, good music, and England's Lady Di. Plus the return of that hit of last year's show, the Moral Chorale.

Are you interested? Are you curious? Are you excited? Of course you are! So get your tickets early-they're going to go fast and we'll see you all at the show and the party.

All women are welcome to this event.

All American abuse

Two groups in Baltimore, the Family Protection Lobby and the Liberty Lobby have pressured Baltimore television station WJZ into canceling public service announcements that encouraged abused children to ask for help. The

announcements, produced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and urging abused children to speak to a teacher or minister, were labeled by the groups as "undermining parental authority." (Advocate)
